"Do [Co-op]!

Don’t worry about delaying your graduation; life isn’t on a schedule and you even get paid to learn!"

What is your field of study?

Computer Science

Why did you choose to enroll in co-op?

To gain experience and familiarity with what I believe is the career path I want and to confirm that it really was what I expected.

David Li: Seattle

Which positions did you work during co-op?

Software Engineer at Tasktop for eight months and then Machine Learning Research Intern at Honda Research Institute, Japan, for one year.

Can you share your favourite experience while in co-op?

The most memorable experience for me was exploring Japan outside of working hours. Among a great many things, I hiked Mt. Fuji and joined martial arts groups; the latter was particularly valuable since I was able to attend regularly over a long period of time.

How do you feel co-op helped your personal growth?

It was an opportunity to try different experiences and environments, to explore and to discover what I like and don’t.

Would you recommend co-op in another city? Why?

If that’s something you’re interested in, definitely! Co-op provided me with the opportunity to live in Japan for a year, which allowed me to see a different country and do much more than I would have been able to as a tourist, while also working in my field.

How do you feel co-op has helped your career?

It gave me a clearer picture of what I want for myself, what I like/dislike, what’s important to me, and what works for me.

What advice would you offer future co-op students?

Do it! Don’t worry about delaying your graduation; life isn’t on a schedule and you even get paid to learn!
