I'm studying for a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and expect to graduate in May 2027.
I chose to enroll in Co-op, because of its significant benefits.
First, it provides an opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in school to real-world work settings, enabling skill transformation and hands-on learning.
Second, encouragement from friends who had positive Co-op experiences motivated me to join. They emphasized how Co-op helps build both technical and soft skills, such as teamwork, communication and adaptability.
My first work placement was in the Digital Information Technologies and Solutions role at Sanofi-Pasteur.
During this term, I played a key role in enhancing the organization's operational efficiency and cybersecurity. I was responsible for installing and maintaining various IQ devices, such as: Ergotron workstations, Wi-Fi bridges and ThinClient terminals, ensuring smooth operations in the B200 building.
Additionally, I provided technical support for laptops and workstations and contributed to cybersecurity compliance efforts, which helped improve system reliability, enhance data security and support the organization’s overall objectives.
No, healthcare was not initially the career path that I envisioned.
However, I've always been interested in positions within the healthcare field, because the process of vaccine development fascinates me.
Additionally, I was drawn to the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to impactful projects that make a difference in people’s lives.
One of my favorite experiences was working on the B200 project alongside my colleague Agithan to successfully deploy Aruba devices, which function as wireless hotspots to facilitate the mobility of Ergotrons.
Initially started in 2022, this project was reassigned to me by my supervisor, Benet. I approached the task with careful attention to detail, seeking expert advice to resolve challenges and ensure the complete implementation of the Aruba devices - a meaningful accomplishment for our team.
My best achievement was applying my academic knowledge, especially in machine learning and algorithm optimization, to real-world settings.
For instance, I enhanced the SupplyChainTrackerAutomation system while working with the FFIP team. This experience allowed me to develop skills in database management, network security and project management, while aligning my work with organizational goals.
The first month of my Co-op felt challenging, as I transitioned from being a student to adapting to a workplace environment in an unfamiliar industry.
I started with almost no knowledge about vaccine development or related applications like MES and PI. However, my supervisor and co-workers provided incredible support, offering guidance that helped me adapt and build the necessary knowledge and skills.
Co-op significantly contributed to my personal growth by enhancing my communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments. I discovered that I thrive in dynamic, team-oriented environments. Networking opportunities during Co-op also broadened my perspective and helped me understand the importance of professional relationships in career development.
Before my Co-op, I was passionate about software development but uncertain about which industry to pursue.
My experience at Sanofi exposed me to the intersection of technology and healthcare, sparking a strong interest in health-tech. It motivated me to explore the integration of AI in manufacturing, particularly for data analysis and workflow optimization.
Additionally, this experience has shaped my academic aspirations, as I am now considering this topic as a potential thesis proposal for a Master’s degree.
The mock interview provided by my Co-op coordinator, Keikei, was invaluable.
As someone with no prior interview experience, the advice and practice boosted my confidence and prepared me for applying to positions. This support played a crucial role in helping me secure my Co-op placement and develop professional skills.
I highly recommend enrolling in the Co-op program, as it provides a unique opportunity to discover your passions and gain practical experience in a real-world work environment.
Take the initiative to learn new skills, advocate for your career progression and don’t hesitate to ask for help. Networking and consistent effort in your roles will make a significant difference in your Co-op success.
I'm excited to apply the knowledge and experience gained during my Co-op to integrate AI into manufacturing processes, focusing on improving data analysis and optimizing workflows.
This aligns with my academic aspirations of pursuing a Master’s degree to further explore the use of generative AI in the healthcare industry, as well as my career objective of leveraging emerging technologies to foster innovation and enhance efficiency in industrial environments.
