Employer Recognition Awards

The Co-op Employer Recognition Awards, established in 2017, is held annually to celebrate exceptional employers who have supported the Science Co-op Program and its students through work-integrated learning opportunities. We would like to acknowledge the many companies and supervisors for going above and beyond in providing valuable work term experiences as well as professional growth opportunities.

The Award will be given out annually in two categories:

  1. Company Recognition
  2. Supervisor Recognition

Information and Criteria

Categories

Category A: Company Recognition (Nomination from UBC Science Co-op Program) The nomination criteria will be based upon:

  • Quality of work experience
  • Support of the Co-op Program
  • Contribution to Co-op Activities
  • Participation to Co-op Professional Development Experience
  • Mentorship

Category B: Supervisor Recognition (Nomination by Science Co-op Students) The nomination criteria will be based upon:

  • Providing a meaningful and quality work experience for the student
  • Providing exceptional mentorship
  • Inclusion of the student within the team
  • Support of the student’s professional development goals for the work term and exploration of new career growth areas
  • Providing opportunities for the student to make new connections
  • Demonstration of excellent managerial and leadership skills
  • Actively goes “above and beyond” initial expectations

Details and Eligibility

Potential nominees must be Co-op employers whereby a full-time UBC Science Co-op student worked for during the academic cycle (eg. Winter 2024, Summer 2024 and Fall 2024)

Frequency of Awards: Once a year and winners will be announced in December.

How to Nominate

All current Co-op students are invited to submit a nomination for the Supervisor Recognition category by logging into SCOPE: (Go to Dashboard / Click Black Circle in lower right corner / Submit a Form / Co-op Supervisor Recognition Award).

  • Testimonial: Tell us in 2-3 sentences what makes your supervisor AWESOME! Disclaimer: The Science Co-op Program reserves the right to publish this testimonial and your name for marketing purposes.
  • Supporting Facts: Include additional information (bullet points or a paragraph are fine) based on the nomination criteria.
  • Incomplete supervisor nominations from students will not be considered
  • Students with two supervisors are permitted to nominate both supervisors
