Students who complete one work term during the Winter Session of their third year may notice that their class standing remains at Year 3 in Workday and that they are not automatically promoted to Year 4. This situation affects students in Schedule A within the following Co-op programs: Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Ocean Sciences, Geographical Sciences, Geological Sciences, Geophysics, Microbiology, and Oceanography. These students may encounter difficulties when registering for fourth-year level courses in the subsequent Winter Session. To address this issue, affected students may be eligible for a manual promotion to Year 4 class standing, provided they meet ALL of the following requirements:
- Successful completion of 72 or more credits
- Successful completion of at least 12 upper-level (300 or 400 level) credits
- Successful completion of at least 50 science credits, of which 9 must be upper level (300 or 400 level) science credits
- Completed the Laboratory Science Requirement
- Completed the Communication Requirement
The above Rules # 2 and 3 are modified from the regular BSc Y4 promotion requirements to account for their Co-op participation. The review will be conducted in February and the Year 4 status will be used to determine registration priority and eligibility in time for Summer session. Students who do not meet the above will not be promoted.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact your Co-op Coordinator or the Science Advising team.
Co-operative education course credits cannot be used in lieu of or to complement academic course credits required by the specialization. Refer to the UBC Academic Calendar for more information.
