Co-op Japan Program 

The Canada-Japan Co-op Program is a Canadian university/college based, international co-op/internship program linking some of the best engineering, science, business and arts discipline undergraduate students from across Canada with highly committed Japanese businesses. The Canada-Japan Co-op Program formally integrates an undergraduate student's Canadian academic studies with valuable work experience in a Japanese company. The program is open to Canadian universities and colleges and is currently administered from UBC.

Requirements:

  1. Co-op students from member Canada-Japan Co-op institutions who have completed at least one Co-op work term or will do so prior to commencement of their work term/internship in Japan.
  2. Students who have completed AT LEAST one Japanese language course (credit or non-credit). Note: Students can apply if they agree to register and complete a Japanese course prior to departure.
  3. Students who have at least one full time academic term to complete upon their return from their co-op/internship in Japan.

Students must book a Co-op Japan Interview with Dr. Javed Iqbal (iqbal@phas.ubc.ca) to receive a recommendation before applying to the positions.

To apply to the Program, students must be accepted into your respective Faculty Co-op Program first. 

CJCP job postings for Summer 2025 are available soon and CJCP application procedure will be discussed during the info session.

If you are considering co-op opportunities in Japan for future term, please attend the info session to learn more about the Program. Co-op opportunities in the Program range from Robotics, Telecommunications, Research based lab work etc.
 
Pre-screening will begin as soon as possible, job postings are availableon SCOPE. Please review the CJCP application steps and note that all steps, including meeting with Dr. Javed Iqbal, the intake interview and submission of job applications, must be completed by Friday, Oct 11, 2024 no later than 4:00PM PDT. Job interviews with shortlisted students will take place in November and placements are finalized in December 2024. Canada-Japan Co-op work terms in Japan commence in May 2025 for 4, 8 or 12 months.

RISE Program

RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Germany offers undergraduate students from North American, British and Irish universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. RISE Germany is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

  • Students are matched with a host university or institute according to their area of interest (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences, Engineering, or a closely related field)
  • RISE provides students a monthly stipend for three months to help cover living expenses
  • Host universities and institutes provide housing assistance and match students with Ph.D. student mentors
  • German language is not required and the working language will be in English

Application Details:

  • Students are required to submit an official transcript as part of their RISE application. Official transcripts can be obtained from WorkDay. The Co-op transcript is not sufficient for this purpose.
  • The Co-op office can issue the Certificate of Enrollment (COE) form and can be requested by emailing office@sciencecoop.ubc.ca.

IAESTE Program

IAESTE - International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience

Located in over 80 countries, IAESTE is an international student exchange program for full-time students interested in gaining professional job experience abroad and employers interested in hiring international student trainees.

AIESEC

Students can obtain valuable paid, technical work opportunities while traveling and working in another country. Some of their internships can be counted as your Co-op work term if they meet the basic o-op requirements.
