Science Co-op International Work Term Grant

Grant Objective

UBC Science Co-op Program strongly encourages students to avail themselves of international work term/internship opportunities to enhance experiential learning and broaden their global outlook. The Science Co-op International Work Terms Grant was created to provide eligible UBC Science Co-op (Vancouver) students with travel expenses for international work terms.  These grants are intended to partially fund relocation costs associated with an international work term. Each grant is valued at maximum of $1,000 CAD per student.

Grant Criteria and Student Eligibility

The student’s placement must be approved by the Co-op Program and the grants are available on a “first come first serve” basis. Students will need the meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:

  1. Is currently enrolled as a UBC Science Co-op student
  2. Earn a monthly salary that is less than or equal to Cdn$1500 or is required to fly to Toronto to apply for a visa
  3. Not receiving any relocation assistance by the employer
  4. The student is required to travel (not applicable to remote positions from Canada)
  • The grant can only be used towards relocation assistance.
  • The student will make his/her own travel arrangements and provide proof of travel expense. Every effort must be made to minimize travel costs.
  • A student is eligible to receive maximum of two Co-op grants throughout their UBC degree and the application must be for two different employers.
  • The grant may be combined with other grants.

How to apply for this grant?

Upon receiving a co-op job offer the interested student can apply for this grant by:

  1. Submitting an application through SCOPE.
  2. Under Dashboard, go to the bottom right hand corner, click on black circle to “Submit A Form”.
  3. Under Category, select “Science Co-op International Work Term Grant Application”.

Selection Process

After receiving the form, the Science Co-op office will review your application.  Approval of the grant is at the Co-op Program Director’s discretion based on the candidate’s eligibility and the funding availability.

The candidate will be notified of the decision before the start of their placement term via email and will need to accept the award request through WorkDay Student.
